Pinckney Knight, Sr. HARLEYVILLE, SC - George Pinckney Knight, Sr.
husband of Jacqueline Kizer Knight, of 930 West Main Street,
Harleyville, SC 29448 entered into eternal rest on Saturday morning
September 22, 2012 at his residence. Funeral services were 3 P.M.
Monday September 24, 2012 in the Indian Field United Methodist
Church with Reverends Preston Grimsley and Robert (Bob) Clyburn
officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites was in the Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Len Reeves, Charles Kizer, David Felkel, Al
Shipmann, Ed Kizer, and John Pendarvis. Honorary Pallbearers will be
members of Christian Fellowship Sunday School Class, Board of
Directors of First National Bank of South Carolina, Indian Field
Campground Trustees and officers of Egeria Masonic Lodge. Friends
may call at the home and visitation will be 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday at
his home. George was born August 28, 1934 in Harleyville a son of
the late Edward Pinckney and Mary Pinckney Pendarvis Knight. He was
predeceased by his brother Roy (Al) Knight. He was a 1952 graduate
of Harleyville High School, and
1956 graduate of Clemson College with a Bachelor of Science in
Agricultural Education. He was a General contractor,
financier, President and Chairman of Knight Construction Company.
After college, he taught vocational agriculture at Cross High
School. He was a forester with West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company.
He was also in the timber business and was pulpwood broker, tree
farmer and served as Chairman of the Board of Directors at First
National Bank of South Carolina. He was an active member of Indian
Field United Methodist Church where he was a former Sunday school
teacher, Past Chairman of Administrative Board, Finance Committee,
Pastor-Parish Relations Committee, Board of Trustees, Past President
and Secretary/Treasurer of Indian Field United Methodist Men's Club
and a member of Methodist Conference Board of Missions. He was a
member of Trustees of Indian Field Campground, having served as
Chairman and Secretary/Treasurer for many years. He was an ex member
and former Chairman of Dorchester County Council, member of
Dorchester County Industrial Development Board, and served as Vice
Chairman of State Health and Human Services Finance Commission. He
served in SC National Guard 1952-1956, was a member of Egeria Lodge
# 71 of Harleyville (Past-Master- Twice), Scottish Rite 32rd Degree
Mason, Omar Shrine Temple, Royal Order of Jesters-Charleston Court
113, Safety Patrol, Dorchester County and South Carolina Farm
Bureau, Harleyville Ruritan Club, Holly Hill Lions Club, Charleston
and Summerville Exchange Club and was a I.P.T.A.Y. Scholarship
Donor. Surviving is his loving wife of 56 years, Jacqueline Kizer
Knight, a son, George P. Knight, Jr.and his wife Debbie Weeks
Knight; a daughter, Jacqueline Yvonne Knight, all of Harleyville;
grandchildren, Adrienne Yvonne Baker, Nichole Knight Goodman and her
husband Jamie Goodman, George Pinckney Knight, III and William Halzy
Baker, III.; great-grandchildren, Jared Allen Goodman and Bailee
Nichole Goodman; his sister-in-law, Patsy G. Knight, St. George and
nieces; Mary Margaret K. (Ben) Riser and Laura K. (Billy) Shipman.
